Reflecting on the amazing success of our Seeds to Reflecting on the amazing success of our Seeds to Seedlings Grassroots Grant as we submit our final report. There's nothing much more rewarding than seeing our seedlings flower, ready to contribute to the next generation. Highlighted by these two regionally threatened beauties, Tall Scurf Pea (Cullen australasicum) and Austral Bugle (Ajuga australis) which have now expanded their range within the PHBG cluster! RF

The propagation of seedlings for this project was made possible by two Grassroots Grants (2020 Banking Seeds for the Bull Creek Range; 2021 Seeds to Seedlings), through  #hillsandfleurieulandscapeboard, funded by the landscape levy. None of this would have happened without the fantastic team @gwlapgroundup and the Alexandrina Community Nursery, and the generous support and advice from the SA Seed Conservation Centre @saseedbank

Thanks Healthy Rivers Grant and GWLAP! ( and MVS ) Thanks Healthy Rivers Grant and GWLAP! ( and MVS )
Our final dense patch of gorse is now gone, apart from a few individual bushes we can take care of, that were tight in amongst the trees.

Final working bee for the year! Yesterday saw a gr Final working bee for the year! Yesterday saw a great turnout of the last weed jamboree of ’22. Weeds were few and far between as the gang headed out for an opportunistic weed scout and ended up getting an impromptu grass field lesson from Renate, took in the results of two seedling planting grants by liberating the now grown saplings from their protective cages, and identified several more sites of the EPBC listed as Vulnerable Clover Glycine (Glycine latrobeana). Not content with finding rare plants we also found a rare declared weed, a poisonous perennial herb called the Water Dropwort (Oenanthe pimpinelloides ). It’s a very exclusive property, none of your common Gorse here! We rounded off the day with a bring-a-plate smorgasbord lunch to celebrate the end of another productive PHBG year.

Wishing you all a lovely festive season, and looking forward to next year's adventures in the bush! 🌱 C&J

You know we live in a great bushcare community whe You know we live in a great bushcare community when neighbours swing buy, not for a cup of sugar, but for a litre of Bio Oil to kill some dog rose. 😀
Then we headed out to check our seedlings & spray slender thistles before they seed...

Another great workshop thanks to Bec Duffield & Da Another great workshop thanks to Bec Duffield & Darren Kenedy, of the Bandicoots Superhighway Project, teaching us about wildlife & bushland monitoring. Looking forward to see what critters we discover in our patch. Thanks for everyone came along! DP.

Huge thanks to the many hands that helped transfor Huge thanks to the many hands that helped transform a weedy part of our creek on Sunday. Once infested with Blackberry and Arum Lilies, it was ready for some careful hand pulling of thistles and other weedy herbs, in preparation for planting. Species included the SA Rare Pale Everlasting (Coronidium gunnianum) and Silky Tea Tree (Leptospermum lanigerum), regionally threatened Tall Scurf Pea (Cullen australasicum) and Manna Gum (Eucalyptus viminalis) and some Austral Hollyhock (Malva weinmanniana) to bolster the 2 lonely plants already growing there.
A delightful bonus was uncovering a couple of large colonies of Maroonhood orchids (Pterostylis pedundulata) lurking beneath the weeds we pulled! Made a perfect day, even better 😊. RF n DP
